Price Tag Its not about the money

travelWho is Jessie J

Jessie J a London  artist, hence the London Bus icon who using her own gile and wit came outside of the mainstream music industry to promote herself.

What is also shown here is just how the internet and YouTube can be a vehicle for young emerging talent to use use this new communication media for just plain healthy fun.

Jessie J is a new (well to me : )pop artist hailing from England who released a breakthrough single titled “Price Tag” featured here. While the song seems to be about the rejection of materialism, the symbolism of the video gives the song a deeper meaning: The music industry is no longer about generating money, it is about indoctrination. We will look at the hidden meanings of the song and video.

musicAt first glance, the song has a noble message Love Music over money. So JJ conveys this apparent revolutionary call with a made for you tube video, featuring a “crossover rap artist. Alright, that might be harsh, but it illustrates the fact that there is a lot of cognitive dissonance involved with this pop song. Although its message is about the non importance of money (consider money is actually a myth being based not on real value artificial  a perception) embracing individuality, it was successful in hitting the world uniquely via YouTube

This song was embraced across a greater part of the Australian Public School system getting featured one morning on the ABC Radio. I heard it was intrigued liked the song so decided to research so here is a compilation of what I found.

social and community commentAt end of all these YouTube takes is the original by Jessie J. I suggest you look at this post in small doses less you get your brain turning inside out. What we have here is a real example of an online community.

What I have done here is a list in my order of preference with the most appealing to me the last being in my opinion the best. I have viewed around over  40 to 50 postings on YouTube. Guess you could say of this phenomenon this is my answer to the Eurovision (er hum 🙂 Song Contest except its World Wide and without the flag waving …cheap too  I have included at the time of writing this now 2 weeks ago the number of views each video has received marks out of 10 and some thoughts on the renditions.

I hope you enjoy. Warning to much of this post in one hit could send you into Price Tag overload

Each video is interspersed with the lyrics

Seems like everybody’s got a price,
I wonder how they sleep at night.
When the sale comes first,
And the truth comes second,
Just stop for a minute and
Smile

Smokey country blues voice recorded in the kitchen Just listen

[B.o.B]
Yeah yeah
Well, keep the price tag
And take the cash back
Just give me six strings and a half stack
And you can, can keep the cars
Leave me the garage
And all I, yes all I need
Are keys and guitars
And guess what, in 30 seconds
I’m leaving to Mars
Yeah we leaving across
These undefeatable odds
It’s like this man
You can’t put a price on a life
We do this for the love
So we fight and sacrifice
Every night
So we ain’t gonna stumble and fall
Never
Waiting to see a sign of defeat
Uh uh
So we gonna keep everyone
Moving their feet
So bring back the beat
And then everyone sing

It’s not about the money
